Delete your account and data
You can delete your My Deen Guide account and its data at any time. There are two ways, and both lead to the same result.
From inside the app
- Open My Deen Guide.
- Go to Settings.
- Open Account.
- Choose Delete account.
- Confirm. You will be asked to re-authenticate, because deletion is permanent.
By email
If you cannot access the app — for example you have lost the device — email privacy@mydeenguide.com from the address associated with your account, with the subject line Delete my account.
We will verify that the request comes from the account holder before acting on it, and confirm by email once the deletion is complete.
What gets deleted
- Your account record and email address.
- Your display name and profile details.
- Synced bookmarks, collections, reading progress, prayer records and settings.
- Community posts and comments you have made.
- Questions you have submitted to Ask a Mufti, and their answers.
What is kept, and for how long
- Moderation records relating to reports made about content, retained for up to 12 months so that a banned user cannot evade moderation by deleting and recreating an account. These records are minimised and are not used for any other purpose.
- Aggregate, non-identifying counts already folded into totals, which cannot be unpicked to an individual.
- Backups, which are rotated out on our provider’s normal schedule (up to 30 days) and are not restored except in a disaster-recovery event.
Timing
Deletion is processed within 30 days of a verified request, and usually immediately for in-app deletions.
Data on your device is separate
Everything the app stores locally — downloaded content packs, offline data, local bookmarks — is removed when you uninstall the app, or individually from Settings → Storage & downloads. Deleting your account does not by itself clear the local copy on a device you still hold, and uninstalling does not by itself delete your server-side account.
